Christer Dahlin, Sweden

Dr Christer Dahlin is a Professor in Oral Surgery and Guided Tissue Regeneration at Department of Biomaterials Science, Institute for Clinical Sciences, The Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He is also a Senior Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with focus on implant treatment at NÄL Medical Centre Hospital, Trollhättan. He is a Member of editorial boards for Clinical Implant Dent & Related Research, Clinical Oral Implant Research, Int J Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry, J Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine and Int J Dental Traumatology. As a former research fellow, he is appointed Courtesy Professor College of Dentistry, University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. Dr Dahlin has over twenty five years of experience in implant treatment and related research and is considered one of the pioneers in the development of the concept of Guided Bone Regeneration that still remains his main focus within research. He is currently project leader for the research group BIOMEMBRANE within the multi-disciplinary BIOMATCELL enterprise, a government-funded Biomaterials initiative in Gothenburg, Sweden. They are studying and developing what could be the next generation of GBR devices. He frequently travels worldwide to lecture, conduct research and teach on this and other implant-related Topics.

  

Nikos Donos, UK

Professor Nikolaos Donos is the Chair of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry and the Head of the Clinical Oral Research Center at the Institute of Dentistry, Barts & The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL)   specializing in the clinical treatment of patients with periodontal disease and implant dentistry, through the provision of randomized controlled clinical trials and at clinically applicable translational research studies. Prior to this appointment, Professor Donos was the Head & Chair of Periodontology, Director of Research and Program Director for the M.Clin.Dent. training program in Periodontology at the UCL- Eastman Dental Institute, London.  In 2009, Professor Donos was awarded the title of Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry in Hong Kong and in 2012 he was awarded the title of Adjunct Professor at the Dental School, Griffith University, Australia. In 2015, Professor Donos was awarded the title of Honorary Professor at UCL-Eastman Dental Institute.

Professor Donos is involved as editorial board member in a number of international and national peer-reviewed journals in the field of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry especially in relation to regenerative procedures/implant surgery and has published extensively in both fields. Professor Donos has published more than 150 scientific publications in the field of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry which is a testament to his professional and scientific commitment in the relevant fields.

In 2011, Professor Donos was awarded the prestigious IADR-Periodontology Group Award in Periodontal Regenerative Medicine during the annual International Association of Dental Research (IADR) meeting in San Diego, California. Furthermore, in June 2011, Professor Donos together with his research team, received a commendation certificate during the prestigious Medical Futures event for their (UCLB) patented technology which is based on their research work on synthetic peptide drugs for bone, blood vessels and nerve regeneration.  

The clinical expertise of Professor Donos is in the field of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. He has significant experience and expertise in the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease, periodontal and bone tissue regeneration, implant related surgical procedures as well as treatment of peri-implantitis, topics which he regularly lectures on a national and international level.

 

Daniel Thoma, Switzerland

Daniel Thoma is a Head of Academic Unit at the Clinic for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences, University of Zurich, Switzerland He graduated in 2000 at the University of Basel, Switzerland and was trained in implant dentistry and prosthodontics at the Clinic for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences, University of Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Thoma was the recipient of an ITI scholarship and spent 1 year at the Department of Periodontics, University of Texas, Health Science Center, San Antonio, USA. Between 2008 and 2012, he was a full-time Senior Teaching and Research Assistant at the Clinic for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Science at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. In 2013, he got his venia legendi (Privatdozent) at the University of Zurich and since then serves as a Head of Academic Unit at the Clinic for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Science at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. His focus is on the comprehensive treatment of complex, partially edentulous patients applying all available options of reconstructive dentistry including dental implants. His main scientific interest is related to hard and soft tissue regeneration with and without the addition of biologic mediators. He has published numerous scientific and clinical articles in these fields. Dr. Thoma is a Fellow of the International Team of Implantology (ITI) and member of EAO Junior Committee. 

 

Giovanni Zucchelli, Italy

He Graduated in 1988 from the University of Bologna, Italy with a degree in dentistry. From the same University he was awarded PhD in Medical Biotechnology in 1999. He is Professor of Periodontology and Implantology  at the University of Bologna, Italy from 2000 Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli received many awards for clinical research in periodontology  in Europe and the United States : in 2006 and 2008 was the winner of The AAP Foundation-E Bud Tarrson Reasearch Award in Oral Plastic Surgery. He is an active member of EAED (European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry),SIdP (Italian Society of Periodontology) and SIO (Italian Society of Osteointegration) and also member of the European Federation of Periodontology.  

He is an associate Editor of the International  Journal of Esthetic Dentistry and Member of the editorial board the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry and European Journal of Osteintegration together with peer reviewer in numerous periodontal and implant Journals Innovator of several  soft tissue plastic surgical techniques, Prof Giovanni Zucchelli is also author of more than 100 pubblications  in Pubmed. He was speaker at major international conferences on periodontology and has taught theoretical and practical (with live Surgery) courses in all countries.  

Prof Zucchelli is the author of the book title, ‘Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery’ best seller from Quintessence Publishing  which is published in 12 different languages and Co-author of two illustrated textbooks on periodontal plastic surgery (Ed.
